Israeli dance group wows Canadian audiences

The world-renowned Batsheva Dance Company's performance in Toronto was warmly-received by Canadian spectators and critics.

The internationally-acclaimed Israeli contemporary dance group Batsheva has recently performed a collection of its works in Toronto, Canada, under the title Decadance 2017.

Founded in 1964, the group uses a unique movement style that has been said to throw audiences into a rich sensual experience, with a diverse soundtrack that ranges from catchy pop tunes to Arab folk music.

The group's performance in Toronto, Decadance 2017, is essentially a mix of snippets from works choreographed by Ohad Naharin, its Artistic Director since 1990.

"The audience feels the meditation brewing in the room and in our chests," wrote Melanie Zuzarte, a lifestyle writer for thirtyfourflavours.com, in her review. "Naharin has raised the bar high."

A documentary titled Mr. Gaga, to be released in March 2017, will provide a behind-the-scenes snapshot into Naharin's life and artistic vision.
