In just another week, the 2017 Tel Aviv Samsung Marathon will kick off at 7:00 AM in the heart of the city. So far, about 40,000 runners have registered for the event, making it Israel’s largest sporting event of the year. The event offers six routes that pass through the popular city: the marathon (42.195 km), the half marathon (21 km), a 10k race, a 5k race, a hand-cycle race for athletes with special needs and two mini-courses for children (420m and 1k).

About 1,500 runners from around the world will be arriving in Tel Aviv in order to participate in the marathon. In addition, many international professional runners will be attempting to break the standing Tel Aviv Marathon record. The record was set last year by Kenya’s William Kiprono Yagon at 2:10:30. According to the Tel Aviv Municipality, any runner who breaks the record with a result under 2:07:59 will receive $40,000.

Tel Aviv Marathon runners this year will see stunning parts of the city as the route begins in northern Tel Aviv and passes by popular destinations in the city such as Sarona Market and Rabin Square. Marathon runners will also run along the white sandy beaches of the Mediterranean.

“The City of Tel Aviv-Yafo is proud of the significant increase in the number of runners who come to participate in the marathon this year,” Mayor of Tel Aviv-Yafo Ron Huldai said. “The Tel Aviv Marathon stands in one line with the great marathons in the world.”
