Lyft and Google’s Waymo reach deal to collaborate for driverless car technology

Waymo, Google’s driverless vehicle development division, signed a collaboration deal with Uber’s rival Lyft. The ride sharing service is the second largest in the US.

As the race to complete the development of self-driving cars becomes more serious, two of Silicon Valley’s biggest stars are now collaborating. According to the New York Times, Waymo, Google’s driverless vehicle development division, signed a collaboration deal with Lyft. News of the agreement came from two people familiar with who requested to remain anonymous.

Both Lyft and Waymo confirmed their collaboration. “Waymo holds today’s best self-driving technology, and collaborating with them will accelerate our shared vision of improving lives with the world’s best transportation,” stated a Lyft spokeswoman.
