Verizon confirmed on Wednesday evening that the personal details of six million customers were posted online. The American telecommunications company said that a mistake in a security setting in the Israeli Nice Systems’ cloud service resulted in the “human error” that caused the leak.
The error exposed the cell phone numbers and names of the customers. The customers’ PIN codes, which are used by Verizon’s customer service in order to identify the customers, were also leaked online. Nice Systems said in a statement that once the human error was discovered, the security settings were fixed.
