An up-and-coming American start-up is planning to launch a new service: space funerals. Elysium Space is planning to send dead people’s ashes into space via Elon Musk’s SpaceX Falcon 9 rockets.

The founders of the start-up announced that over 100 bookings have already been made for the inaugural “memorial spaceflight.” Among those whose ashes will be sent into orbit are war veterans and aerospace fans. The cost of the service cost begins at $2,490.

The ashes will be dispersed around Earth for two years and then the spacecraft will re-enter the atmosphere as a shooting star in order to avoid space pollution.

“We are honored to assist families in achieving their dreams, riding on one of the greatest rockets in the world,” said Thomas Civeit, founder and CEO of Elysium Space. “This historical launch provides the perfect conditions to make this memorial spaceflight an exceptionally meaningful experience for all participants.”
