An East Jerusalem school, which receives funding from the Israeli Education Ministry, recently celebrated the achievement of one of its female students during a competition in Dubai. However, the celebration took place in the Palestinian Authority.
Last week, Dar al-Hikmah, a school located in East Jerusalem, sent a female student as its representative at the Arab mathematics competition in Dubai. 80 Arab countries participated in the event. The school receives 75% of its funding from the Israeli Education Ministry.

Channel 2 News discovered that the Dar al-Hikmah representative placed second in the competition and was presented as the “Jerusalem representative from Palestine.” She even took a picture with the Palestinian flag as she stood on the podium to receive her prize.
A few days later, she returned to her school in East Jerusalem. However, the ceremony in her honor was held at the Palestinian Education Ministry in Ramallah.
“I congratulate Palestine on the second place win in the world mathematics competition,” wrote the Palestinian Education Minister on his Twitter account. “Congratulations!”
The Israeli Education Ministry stated in response: “The Education Ministry views this provocation very seriously and the principal of the school will be summoned for a talk.”
