Survey indicates majority of Israeli Jews believe Arab Israelis support recent terror attacksIn the wake of the recent Temple Mount crisis triggered by the terror attack in which two police officers were murdered, the Israel Democracy Institute’s Peace Index that was published today indicates that a majority of Israelis believe that the political leadership’s conduct concerning the crisis was flawed. Among the Jewish population, a majority believes that Arab Israeli citizens support the terror attacks at the Temple Mount and in Halamish.
According to Tel Aviv University and the Israel Democracy Institute’s Peace Index that was published today (Wednesday), a majority of Israeli Jews favor imposing the death penalty for terrorists and believe that at least half or more of Arab Israelis support this past month’s terror attacks surrounding the Temple Mount crisis.
The survey found that Israeli Jews were very critical towards the courts’ so-called lenient treatment of terrorists: 60% of Jews believe that the court sentences imposed upon Palestinians who execute terror attacks are too lenient. Furthermore, 70% of Jews said that they support the death sentence for terrorists who murder Israelis with a nationalistic motive. The percentage of support decreases to 66% regarding terrorists who murder IDF soldiers.
In reference to the recent terror attacks surrounding the Temple Mount crisis, 56% of Jews believe that at least half or more of Arab Israelis support the Temple Mount terror attack that triggered the crisis, in which two Israel Police officers were murdered two weeks ago. 71% of Jews said that they believe that at least half of the Arab population supports the Halamish terror attack, in which three members of the Salomon family were murdered in their home. In addition, 65% of Israelis stated that they did not trust Israeli Prime Minister Benjamin Netanyahu’s treatment of the Temple Mount crisis.
