A two-day-old baby born in Cyprus to Syrian refugees was flown in for an emergency heart surgery in Israel early Saturday morning.

The baby's treatment in Israel was made possible after the Cypriot Health Ministry asked the Israeli ambassador, Sammy Revel, for assistance. Israeli Interior Minister Aryeh Deri approved the request and a special medical transport plane was sent to Cyprus.

Israeli doctors began operating on the baby shortly after its arrival in Israel.
