The Jerusalem District Planning and Building Committee is expected to discuss during its next meeting a new construction plan in the Ramat Shlomo neighborhood, which includes 1,440 housing units. This morning (Sunday), officials within the Jerusalem Municipality said that the plan will be one of the largest the committee has discussed in recent years in light of the 2016 US election results.

Last week, it was reported that the head of the committee stated that he intends to bring back to the discussion table construction plans that were put on hold. However, the aforementioned Ramat Shlomo plan is an expansion of a previous plan. According to the Jerusalem Municipality, this plan includes “a new area that was never discussed until today because of the Obama administration’s objection.”

“In Jerusalem, we are acting as if Trump has already taken office but the problem is that no one knows what’s his policy,” some of the committee members told Channel 2 Online. “There is an understanding among all of us that what we don’t do within the next two months could impact the future. Even if the US State Department or White House issues a statement of condemnation, it isn’t worth a lot right now. We need to show Trump: “We are building in Jerusalem.”

Last week, JOL News reported that the Jerusalem Municipality is planning to discuss several plans that it suspended due to Obama’s opposition. Beyond the Green Line construction plans are considered a red rag by the international community in general and the Obama administration in particular.
