Two masked gunmen opened fire at a high school in the Israeli-Arab town of Jaljulia on Wednesday afternoon, injuring a 17-year-old student.

The student was evacuated to a nearby hospital by MDA paramedics, suffering from gunshot wounds in his legs. The school's parent council is considering announcing an indefinite strike in response to the incident.

According to reports, dozens of students were present when the gunmen opened fire. One of the teachers tried to prevent them from shooting, but they reportedly shoved her away.

"We never thought the violence in the Arab sector would reach such a level," said Wahabi, the head of the parent council. "It's terrible, deeply upsetting and we are helpless. We feel that our children are not protected in their school."
