Israeli Education Minister Naftali Bennett announced today (Thursday) that Tzvika Levy and David Bari will be this year’s recipients of the Israel Prize. Bennett congratulated Levy, who is known as the father of lone soldiers, and Bari, the head of the Ir David Foundation (commonly known in Israel as the El-Ad organization), which has turned the City of David into a high-quality tourist and Jewish heritage site.

After serving as an Israeli paratrooper, Levy decided to dedicate his life to lone soldiers. Over the past 21 years, Levy has helped over 900 female and male lone soldiers.

“Levy made a major contribution to the state by helping lone soldiers,” the Israel Prize committee stated. “For decades, he has been helping hundreds and thousands of helpless soldiers and caring with exemplary devotion for bereaved families.”

“The 50th anniversary of the reunification of Jerusalem is a wonderful opportunity to thank David Bari,” stated Bennett.
