This evening (Sunday), First Sergeant Yosef Kirma, who was murdered in today’s shooting attack in Jerusalem, was laid to rest. 29-year-old Kirma was shot and injured during the exchange of fire between police and terrorist Mosabach Abu Sabich near the city’s Sheikh Jarrah neighborhood. He is survived by his wife, parents and two brothers. As reported earlier by JOL, Levana Malihi, the second Israeli who was murdered in the same attack, was laid to rest today at 7:30 PM.
Kirma joined the police force 4 years ago. Last December, he and his partner noticed a suspicious man near a kindergarten. They followed the suspect and decided to stop and search him. They found a knife on him and during his interrogation, the terrorist admitted that he intended to execute a stabbing attack. For thwarting this terror attack, Kirma received a citation from the Jerusalem District Police Commander.
Hundreds of family members and friends attended Kirma’s funeral. In addition, Public Security Minister Gilad Erdan, Israel Police Commissioner Roni Alsheikh and Jerusalem District Police Commander Yoram Halevy attended the funeral. “My love, my heart, my father told me to write a eulogy from all my heart but my heart has melted to pieces,” eulogized his widow, Noy, in tears.
“I’m sorry I didn’t protect you,” continued Noy. “I ask that you protect me. I love you and you will be in my heart until I die.”
Kirma’s father also eulogized him: “Yossi, you are my friend also, you know that. We would hang out together, have get-togethers. You aren’t with us now. How will I survive?”
Kirma was a Yasam police officer. Yasam is the Israel Police Special Patrol Unit. “The Yasam family bows its head,” eulogized the Jerusalem District Police Yasam Commander. “This is a painful day that will be remembered forever in the hearts of the unit’s officers. Yossi was made of the elements of which Israel’s heroes are made. We salute you for the last time. May your memory be a blessing.”
