Authorities in Haifa estimate that about 700 homes are currently uninhabitable after being damaged by fire. Increasing winds on Friday morning caused the fire in some locations in the northern city to renew. 35 firefighting teams are working to extinguish the flames.

"We have lost all our memories. My heart is crying," said Michal Zamir, whose mother's house was severely damaged. "I visited her yesterday morning, we smelled smoke, so I called the fire service, the city and the police. Eventually they all came and we were evacuated."

Haifa Mayor Yona Yahav said the city has provided shelters for its evacuated residents. "I spent the night visiting the damaged neighborhoods, it's horrifying," he said.

Shai Babad, the Director-General of the Finance Ministry, said every resident whose home was damaged will be compensated by the state, even if they don't have insurance.
