Balad members claim political persecution

Joint Arab List MKs from the Balad political fraction Jamal Zahalka and Hanin Zoabi responded to their interrogation in the large-scale corruption case against their party. "When there is a murder in the Arab sector, they don't send 30 policemen," stated Zahalka. “This is a political police department that is controlled by the Shin Bet and the Prime Minister.

Joint Arab List members from the Balad party MKs Jamal Zahalka and Hanin Zoabi, who are under investigation by the Israeli crime fighting unit Lahav 433, responded to the accusations against them. "It is political persecution," stated Zahalka in a press conference outside of Lahav 433's offices.

Zahalka claims that over 30 senior-level Balad members have been investigated and that not only the police took part of the investigation. "When there is a murder or a shooting in the Arab community, they don't send 30 policemen,” added Zahalka. “This is a political police department that is controlled by the Shin Bet and the Prime Minister."

Zahalka continued to attack the government, comparing it to its Turkish counterpart saying, "They talk about dark regimes in Turkey and other places where this government executes political persecution."

The investigation is still ongoing. So far, over 30 Balad officials have been questioned and released.
