An explosive device placed on the Gaza side of the security fence detonated on Wednesday morning near an IDF engineering vehicle. No injuries were reported.

In response, the IDF said it had struck several targets belonging to Hamas’ armed wing. “The IDF holds Hamas responsible for all occurrences in Gaza and will not allow the terror organization to turn the area of the security fence into a combat zone,” the IDF Spokesperson’s Unit said in a statement.

As previously reported by JOL, the high tensions along the Israel-Gaza security fence continued throughout the week. On Monday, Israeli fighter jets attacked a Hamas target in northern Gaza after several explosive devices were placed along the Gaza border by terrorists who breached the security fence. On Sunday, an IDF tank opened fire on three Palestinians who broke through the security fence, causing the Palestinians to flee back to Gaza. When IDF soldiers searched the area, they found two improvised explosive devices.
