Border policeman killed by accidental bullet discharge

There was a tragedy in the South. On an army base in the South, a 19 year old soldier was killed in friendly fire. He was taken to the hospital in critical condition, but despite doctors efforts, he did not survive.  According to a preliminary investigation, it appears that it was an accidental bullet discharge. 

The incident took place at the Border Patrol base close to Yad Mordechai. Sergeant Avi Gronov was hit in the head with the discharged bullet of a friend.  Gronov was taken by MDA to a hospital after attempts to stabilize him on the scene.  He was given anesthesia and was in an unstable situation.  Doctors pronounced his death as soon as he arrived to the emergency room. 

Gronov served as a combat soldier in the Border Police Unit in the South.  He is survived by his parents and two sisters. The Police Investigation Department has opened an investigation into the incident.

At the same time, in a separate incident that occurred at the military training base of the Engineering Corps, a soldier was injured lightly in the leg from gunfire.  It appears that he was shot during a training exercise.  After receiving first aid from the doctors on the base, he was taken to the hospital.  The army opened an investigation into the incident.
