About 500 people gathered in Tel Aviv Sunday night in order to show solidarity with the Mengistu family. Yesterday marked three years since Avera Mengistu crossed the border into Gaza and was taken prisoner by Hamas. The family is calling on the government to ensure their loved one's release.

According to the parents, the last time that an Israeli official contacted them about their son was a year and a half ago. They said that during every conversation with an Israeli official, they were told what they could tell the public and what they could not but they now plan to share everything they know. In addition, the Mengistu family announced that more rallies will be held.

Meanwhile, former Shin Bet head Yuval Diskin said that he plans to help the family by putting them in contact with the relevant politicians in order to bring Avera back to Israel. Diskin said that after he was informed about the Mengistu family's hardships and saw where Avera grew up, he is determined to assist the family.
