German company wins Israeli bid despite previously caving to BDSDeutsche Bahn, a German railway company that pulled out of an Israeli project in 2011 over pressure from the BDS movement, has won a tender for the operation of a future light rail line in the Tel Aviv area.
German railway company Deutsche Bahn won a tender earlier this week to operate one of the lines of the future Tel Aviv-area light rail. Back in 2011, the company chose to pull out of the Tel Aviv-Jerusalem fast train route project over pressure from BDS-linked groups.
The company's decision to pull out of the 2011 project was made because the line was planned to go through the West Bank.
Deutsche Bahn won the tender with an estimated 2.5 billion shekel bid. The Ministry of Transport has stated that the tender was run by the government-owned NTA company from a purely professional standpoint.
