On Sunday morning, Haim Fogel, who lost five family members in a stabbing attack in Itamar in 2011, arrived at the Salomon family home in Halamish. “When something so similar happens, you feel the pain because you know what the family is going through, what tragedy they are experiencing,” he said.

“It’s very hard to stand here next to the home where the horrible murder took place, where my good friends were murdered, Yossi, Elad and Chaya,” he continued. “It really reminds [me] of where we were six and a half years ago, when we came in the middle of that horrible night to Itamar to take our grandchildren to our home.”

Fogel said that he last saw the Salomon family on Friday: “I saw Yossi after the prayer service and I told him mazel tov on his grandson’s birth.” Fogel added that on Friday evening, he had a bad feeling. “We were sitting on the porch after the meal and there was a bad feeling,” he recalled. “At least I had a bad feeling. This was the first time it has ever happened to me. After 15 minutes, we heard a siren. We went inside and then the soldiers arrived and the residents joined them. This is how we found out about the tragedy.”

“It’s impossible to get over it but it’s possible to continue to live with it,” he added. “We are telling the family- we aren’t going to tell them to be strong- just to continue to live because that is what they need to do.”
