The municipality of Haifa and the police annouced on Friday that it is safe for all residents of Haifa to return to their homes. Authorities estimate that about 700 homes are currently uninhabitable due to heavy fire damage. Although the fire was renewed in some locations, firefighting forces have gained control over the flames.

Earlier on Friday, before the police's announcement, some residents of the northern city decided to visit their evacuated homes and estimate the damage up close. Rescue forces then stressed that the area was still dangerous and urged residents to be patient and stay away from their homes. Police stationed officers to guard the abandoned neighborhoods during the night.

About 80,000 Haifa residents were evacuated on Thursday from 12 different neighborhoods.
