Hamas member indicted for surveilling the IDF during Operation Protective Edge

A young man from Gaza was arrested and charged recently with national security offenses. According to the indictment, the young man surveilled the Zaytun neighborhood in Gaza during Operation Protective Edge and passed on information to Hamas about the IDF and Palestinians who allegedly collaborated with Israel.

It was cleared for publication today (Sunday) that a 20-year-old Hamas member, Diaa Odoan, was arrested recently and charged with national security offenses. According to the indictment that was filed on Friday against him, Odoan was a member of Hamas’ military wing and committed crimes against the State of Israel. Among other crimes, Odoan is suspected of surveilling IDF forces during Operation Protective Edge in Gaza.

The Southern District Prosecution claimed that Odoan joined the terrorist organization when he was 14 years old and participated in Hamas military drills and religious classes. According to the indictment, Odoan searched for Palestinians who collaborated with Israel during Operation Protective Edge. The prosecution claims that Odoan patrolled the Zaytun neighborhood in Gaza during the night. “During the patrols, the accused would document information and then transfer it to a Hamas member named Abu Saban,” the prosecution claimed in the indictment.
