Hashem Mahameed, a former Israeli MK and the former mayor of Umm El-Fahm, passed away on Tuesday at the age of 73.

Mahameed was a member of the Israeli parliament from 1992 to 2002 as part of the Hadash and Ra'am parties, which would later merge to form the Joint Arab List.

As Mayor of Umm El-Fahm, the largest Arab city in Israel, he is known for having promoted various projects to advance the city.
