State Comptroller: “Terrorists or criminals may take advantage of this situation”Today, Israel’s State Comptroller published a report that criticizes the country’s readiness for the threat of drones: “Terrorists or criminals may take advantage of this situation.”
Today (Wednesday), Israeli State Comptroller Yosef Shapira published a report on the country’s readiness for the threat of drones: “Terrorists or criminals may take advantage of this situation and misuse drones.”
“The availability of drones and their constant technological improvement has created a growing threat,” he determined. “Dealing with the threat requires joint national action of the security forces and law enforcement agencies.”
Shapira began the report with harsh criticism of the refusal of the IDF and the police to deal with the threat over the years. In addition, the report claims that although preliminary discussions on the issue began two and a half years ago, the Security Cabinet has yet to make a decision regarding ways of dealing with the threat on the national level.
The State Comptroller also determined that the Civil Aviation Authority does not effectively enforce the law against drone operators and the monetary fines imposed on those who violate the law are not a sufficient deterrent.
