After Fatah prisoners and other convicted terrorists announced that they plan to launch a massive hunger strike soon, the Israel Prison Service decided to set up a field hospital near Ktzi’ot Prison in order to treat the prisoners who participate in the strike. Israeli Public Security Minister Gilad Erdan proposed the idea to set up the field hospital, which is supposed to show the convicted terrorists that their main goal of the massive hunger strike- to cause chaos in Israeli hospitals- will not be achieved.

The medical equipment to treat the prisoners has already been sent to the prison from the Israeli Health Ministry. Some of the doctors who will treat the prisoners will be IDF reservists who will be called to report for duty in light of this special operation.

In two weeks, the massive hunger strike will begin. The hunger strike was announced by Marwan Barghouti, a Fatah leader who is currently serving five consecutive life sentences. According to Fatah, the hunger strike will begin on April 17 and prisoners from various Israeli prisons plan to participate in it. “This decision is a very important step,” said Barghouti when he called on other prisoners to join the hunger strike.

The decision to strike was reached in light of the growing demands of prisoners belonging to Fatah that were denied. The party stated that the strike will continue until all the demands are met.
