The Jerusalem Municipality has decided to honor US President Donald Trump ahead of the American embassy move to the city. Jerusalem Mayor Nir Barkat announced Tuesday that the municipality will officially name a square near the new embassy location after Trump.

“United States Square in honor of President Donald Trump” was the name that was chosen. According to Barkat, the naming ceremony will take place in the near future in front of Trump administration officials.

“President Trump has recognized Jerusalem as the capital of the Jewish people,” Barkat wrote on Twitter. “To show our love and respect for POTUS and the American people, who always stand by the side of Israel and Jerusalem, we will name a square next to the new US Embassy in honor of the President.”

The municipality explained that the name for the square was selected about a year ago—even though the declaration about the embassy move was only announced in December.

Meanwhile, the US Embassy in Tel Aviv changed its Twitter handle to @usembassyjlm on Monday, exactly one week before the embassy relocation ceremony. Also on Monday, road signs directing the public to the new American embassy location were put up in Jerusalem.
