The Israeli security guard who was stabbed in his upper body by a terrorist in Jerusalem on Sunday afternoon remains in critical condition. The Shaare Zedek Medical Center in Jerusalem stated that the victim, who is in his 30s, is currently in surgery. The hospital stressed that he is in “very serious” condition.
Initial reports stated that the terrorist was a Turkish national. However, the Shin Bet quickly dismissed the reports, claiming that the terrorist was a Palestinian resident of Nablus.
The terrorist was eliminated at the scene by a police officer. On Twitter, Israeli Public Security Minister Gilad Erdan praised the officer, saying that he prevented the terrorist from harming additional people. “The Israel Police will continue to act against the cursed terrorists incited by the Palestinian Authority, in Jerusalem and across the country,” he added.
Jerusalem Mayor Nir Barkat issued a statement following the attack. “The enemies of Israel are constantly trying to harm soldiers, police officers, security guards and civilians and this is because of the serious incitement to which they are exposed,” he stated. “The only response to this is a determined and relentless fight against terrorism and those who incite to terrorism.”
