The fire that started in the Judaean Mountains continues to spread to the west and firefighters are now attempting to extinguish the flames in the regions of Latrun and Sha’ar HaGai. At this stage, the fire is not threatening homes but has already destroyed hundreds of acres of woods and forests.

Meanwhile, discussions continue regarding foreign aid. As reported earlier by JOL, a senior-level security official stated that it is possible that there won’t be enough firefighting aircraft tomorrow. Israeli Prime Minister Benjamin Netanyahu flew on a helicopter over the fire zones in Northern Israel and later will attend a briefing for the firefighters in Zichron Ya’acov.

Today (Wednesday), Israeli Public Security Minister Gilad Erdan will decide whether to exercise mutual aid agreements with Greece, Cyprus and Croatia by receiving additional firefighting aircraft. This morning, Erdan reached out to the countries. Greece and Cyprus replied that they will help if needed and even Italy stated that it will send the aircraft if necessary although Israel has not made such a request.
