Israeli minister decides to name Western Wall train station after TrumpThe Israeli transportation minister has decided to name a new train station that will be built near the Western Wall in Jerusalem after US President Donald Trump. Earlier this month, Trump recognized the city as Israel’s capital, a move that was widely condemned around the world but welcomed in Israel.
Israeli Transportation Minister Yisrael Katz (Likud) decided on Tuesday to name a new train station that will be built near Jerusalem’s Western Wall after US President Donald Trump, Yedioth Ahronoth has learned. Katz made the decision after he approved Israel Railways’ recommendation to build the station in the Old City, expanding the Jerusalem-Tel Aviv train route to the area.
“The Western Wall is the holiest site for the Jewish people and I’ve decided to call the train station that leads to it after US President Donald Trump following his brave and historic decision to recognize Jerusalem as Israel’s capital,” Katz explained.
Katz added that the addition to the Jerusalem-Tel Aviv train route is his ministry’s most important national project and therefore he has ordered the ministry staff to make it a top priority.
Earlier this month, Trump announced that his administration recognizes Jerusalem as Israel’s capital city, a decision that sparked outrage not only in the Arab world but also across the world. Last week, the UN General Assembly voted 128-9 in favor of a resolution condemning Trump’s declaration. Thirty-five countries, including Canada, Paraguay, Romania and Poland, abstained from the vote.
