World leaders begin to arrive in Israel for Peres’ funeral
Until 9:00 PM: Public invited to pay final respectsPeres’ casket made its way this morning from Central Israel to Jerusalem. From 9:00 AM to 9:00 PM today, Israelis are invited to pay their last respects to one of the country’s greatest leaders. Tomorrow, Peres’ funeral will be held at Mount Herzl.
Shimon Peres’ casket was placed this morning (Thursday) outside the Knesset building after it was brought from Central Israel to Jerusalem via a motorcade on Highway 1. Later today, Israeli President Reuven Rivlin, Prime Minister Benjamin Netanyahu and Knesset Speaker Yuli Edelstein will place wreaths on the casket. Starting at 9:00 AM today, Israelis are invited to pay their last respects to one of the country’s greatest leaders.

The Knesset issued several guidelines for the public regarding the arrival to the site. Among other things, private vehicles will not be allowed to park at the Knesset parking lot. Parking will be available at several sites near the Knesset building. From each parking lot, shuttles will transport the public to the Knesset building free of charge.
Yesterday, JOL reported that the Israeli security forces began preparing for the state ceremonies in memory of Israel’s 9th President and his funeral, which will be held tomorrow. 7,000 police officers will secure Peres’ funeral.
On Friday, Highway 1 will be closed on and off from the early morning hours in order to accommodate the motorcades of the world leaders who are coming from around the globe in order to pay their last respects to Peres. All the roads leading to Mount Herzl, where Peres will be buried, will be closed down from the morning hours until after 2:00 PM.
