Murderer of former Israeli PM Yitzhak Rabin will request retrialYigal Amir, the murderer of Prime Minister Yitzhak Rabin, signed a request for a retrial regarding the injury of Rabin’s security guard. According to his attorney, the results could influence the ruling on the murder itself.
Today (Sunday), Yigal Amir, who was convicted of assassinating former Israeli Prime Minister Yitzhak Rabin, officially signed a request for a retrial.
Amir spoke with his attorney for half an hour, during which he signed the documents in order to cancel the ruling on the injury of Rabin’s security guard. According to Amir’s attorney, the success of this phase will influence the continuation of the process regarding Rabin’s murder. His attorney refused to disclose whether new evidence will be provided.
Last week, Amir’s wife revealed that the lawyers who are dealing with the case have evidence that shows that her husband was not responsible for Rabin’s death. On her Facebook page, she posted the email she received from her husband’s new defense team in Switzerland: “We are pleased to inform you that we possess more than 18 conclusive pieces of evidence that indicate that the bullets that Yigal Amir fired at Prime Minister Yitzhak Rabin on November 4, 1995, were not the ones that caused his death.”
