This morning (Wednesday), more names of suspects related to the investigation of Israeli Minister of Interior Arieh Deri were allowed for publication. Among those questioned was Georgian billionaire Mikhael Mirilashvili and his son, owners of Israel’s channel 20. Overall, 14 suspects were detained in connection to the investigation so far.

57-year-old Mirilashvili is an Israeli-Georgian businessman and philanthropist. He holds different businesses across the world, including real estate, diamonds, energy and new media. Another person questioned in the investigation was businessman Moshe Aba who previously served as the Chairman of Bezeq International and is now the owner of a real estate company.

Attorney Erez Malul, assistant to Minister of Religious Services David Azulai (Shas), is also being investigated. Deri’s office director was also questioned as well as his daughter.

The investigation raises the suspicion that Deri and his wife Yaffa received money fraudulently under the guise of donations to the Mifalot Simcha organization headed by Yaffa Deri and used the money for themselves. The investigators are following the money trail, especially in the case of Mirilashvili who donated to the organization.

At first, Deri was mainly suspected of tax offenses in relation to apartments that the minister sold to his brother. However, the case now contains serious suspicions of serious crimes.
