Israeli Prime Minister to meet with heads of West Bank settlements over controversial construction planIsraeli Prime Minister Benjamin Netanyahu will attempt to ease tensions after heads of the West Bank settlements slammed the new construction plan, which they claim constitutes a hidden construction freeze. Rightists claim: "We have heard enough promises."
After heads of the West Bank settlements sharply criticized Israeli Prime Minister Benjamin Netanyahu last week for making significant reductions in the construction plan, Netanyahu will hold a meeting on Wednesday with a number of regional council heads from across the Green Line in an attempt to assuage their concerns.
At the meeting, Netanyahu is expected to present additional building plans, the first stages of which he will be initiating in the coming months. "We have heard enough promises from the days before Trump, and it seems that Netanyahu does not intend to implement those even after the administration changed in the White House," said sources from the right-wing leadership.

Towards the end of last week, the state announced that for the first time since US President Donald Trump took office, it will approve a construction plan for the West Bank. The plan was met with harsh criticism from the heads of the West Bank settlements, who claimed that the number of units up for approval constitutes a hidden construction freeze.
Both the Prime Minister and the Defense Minister rejected the claims made by the heads of the West Bank settlements and the Yesha council that the government had imposed a covert construction freeze. Netanyahu said that the attack from the right-wing leadership was unjustified because the plan would add more than 2,000 housing units in the West Bank. The original plan discussed by the cabinet and the Prime Minister, however, included a much larger number of housing units as well as other stipulations that were omitted from the final plans.
