According to the State Attorney’s Office, Israeli Prime Minister Benjamin Netanyahu spoke with the former editor-in-chief of Israel Hayom newspaper Amos Regev 5 times a day during elections.

In the past, the State Comptroller’s Office examined whether the newspaper illegally financed a party’s election campaign. “As long as the police is investigating, the office is out of the picture,” it stated. “In the current state of affairs, it is not possible that the State Comptroller will examine the issue and its possible implications.”

Last week, Netanyahu revealed general information regarding his conversations with Israel HaYom owner Sheldon Adelson and with Regev. During an interview with Israel’s Army Radio, Netanyahu’s Attorney Amit Hadad stated that both the conversations with Adelson and Regev will be published according to the court ruling. “It’s not something unique – everyone talks to publishers,” Hadad said. “Everyone knows it and this is first class hypocrisy.”
