Israel Police to establish new unit to protect towns from terroristsFirst report: The Israel Police announced today (Thursday) that a new unit will be established in order to tackle the growing terror threat from Gaza. Israeli Public Security Minister Gilad Erdan approved the decision to establish the unit.
In the coming days, hundreds of Israel Border Police officers will begin their training as part of a new unit designed to tackle the growing terror threat from Gaza. The members of the unit will be trained as the first responders to the towns in the southern part of the country when terrorists infiltrate Israel from the Gaza Strip or the Mediterranean. The unit will respond to towns and cities such as Ashkelon, Netivot and Ofakim.
The officers will learn how to use advanced technology such as night-vision goggles, drones, motorcycles, ATVs and jeeps equipped with heavy machine guns. These officers will deal with the terror attack until the IDF soldiers from the elite units arrive.
The decision to establish the unit comes after the Israel Police realized that its officers are not trained to deal with such a terror threat. Israeli Public Security Minister Gilad Erdan approved the decision to establish the unit.
