Former Israeli Prime Minister Ehud Olmert is expected to face a parole board on Sunday, after a request by the State Attorney's Office to postpone his hearing was denied.

The request was filed on Thursday following a decision by the law enforcement system to launch a police inquiry into allegations that Olmert smuggled documents containing classified information into prison.

State Attorney Shai Nitzan said postponing Olmert's parole hearing would enable the police to collect further evidence prior to the hearing.

Police are currently checking whether Olmert may have smuggled the documents for the purpose of writing his autobiography.
