Magen David Adom responded to 2,229 calls over Yom Kippur

Hundreds of Israelis became dehydrated during the Yom Kippur fast and fainted. Hundreds more sustained injuries when bike riding or skateboarding while the streets were empty.

1,659 people were treated over Yom Kippur, Magen David Adom reported on Saturday evening. Medical teams were called to 2,229 locations across Israel during the holiest day of the Jewish year. 228 people fainted due to the fast. Twenty-one of them received CPR.

265 people received first aid after being injured while bike riding, skateboarding or in-line skating. Seven of them were injured while riding an electric bike or hoverboard.

134 pregnant women were taken to the delivery room during Yom Kippur. In seven cases, Magen David Adom teams ended up delivering the babies.
