The roof of a 4-story parking garage in Tel Aviv collapsed this morning (Monday). The incident occurred at a parking garage on Hanechoshet Street in Ramat HaHayal near Assuta Medical Center. So far, 2 people were killed and 24 people were injured. One of the victims is in critical condition. Police officers as well as search and rescue teams are currently at the scene and searching for a few people who are believed to be trapped underneath the rubble. “It felt like an earthquake,” said an Israeli who works in a nearby building.

At around 11:25 AM, the first report regarding a parking garage in a crowded area that collapsed was called in. It is still unclear what caused the parking garage to collapse but at the moment, the access to the entire area has been blocked off.

“I was in a nearby building,” recalled Ran Vechman. “Everything filled up with smoke, the entire street. A giant pit was formed and the scene is filled with a lot of search and rescue teams. I thought that it was maybe a minor earthquake. The parking garage was in its final stages of construction and it just collapsed completely.”
