Shimon Peres' family began sitting Shiva this evening (Saturday) at the Peres Center for Peace in Yafo.

"Since he passed away, we are under heavy grief and we feel that the grief is not our own but that of the entire country," said Hemi, Peres' son. "The global and local love and support that we are receiving dulls the deep pain."

"Here at this center, father spoke at the same day he was hospitalized,” continued Hemi. “That was the last time father spoke to the public. We are sitting the Shiva here in the place that was his home, in this house that was built in an Arab neighborhood and that became the symbol for coexistence."

"Father served the State of Israel his entire life and now we feel that many want to come and offer their condolences. We want to thank all those who participate in our grief and who came to pay their respects. Our father was a man of vision, action and peace.”
