Israeli police recommend indicting MK Haim KatzThe Israel Police has completed the investigation into Welfare Minister Haim Katz and recommended that the state attorney’s office press charges against him. Katz, who served as the head of the IAI workers’ union before joining politics, is suspected of bribery, fraud, breach of trust and extortion.
On Sunday, the Israel Police announced that it has completed the investigation into Welfare Minister and Likud MK Haim Katz. The police recommended that the state’s prosecution indict Katz, who served as the Israel Aerospace Industries National Workers’ Union chairman before joining the Likud party, for corruption-related offenses.
The police stated that they found enough evidence to indict Katz and current senior officials at IAI, including members of the board, for the charges of bribery, fraud, breach of trust and extortion. The investigation uncovered evidence that Katz used company funds of thousands of shekels and resources for personal use. The Israel Police also discovered that Katz used his position to provide jobs and opportunities to his friends and family.
The police and investigation team have handed the case and evidence over to the state’s prosecution, which will decide whether or not to move forward with the case against Katz.
Katz stated that the investigation is ludicrous and that he believes that the state attorney’s office will decide not to prosecute him. He also stated that he had no other expectations from the police and that it was clear that “they can’t admit that the great amount of resources that they spent on this delirious investigation was a waste.”
