The Israel Police recommend Wednesday to press charges against three El Al employees who allegedly stole millions of shekels from the airline. The police suspicions include fraud, money laundering and tax evasion.
The three worked for the company between 2008 and 2013 in El Al's Eastern Europe offices. The investigation was launched after the airline filed a police complaint, explaining that after inspecting the financial departments of the company's offices in Romania and Poland, there were suspicions of wrongdoing.
The police investigation began in 2015. The Israel Police explained that the investigation was complicated and continuous because it needed to receive special permission to conduct the probe in Poland and Romania. Additional law-enforcement agencies around the world took part in the investigation.
