The Jerusalem District Police have launched an investigation into an anti-IDF play that was performed three weeks ago in the ultra-Orthodox neighborhood of Mea She'arim.

During the play, an actor portraying an IDF soldier was physically and verbally attacked by other characters on stage. Members of the audience, many of whom were children, were encouraged to throw objects at him as well.

The disturbing performance was put on by members of an extremist anti-Zionist faction within the ultra-Orthodox community. Members of this group have often expressed their contempt for the IDF in a variety of provocative ways.

Two months ago, Haredi extremists hung an effigy of an IDF soldier from a roof as a way of protesting a coalition dispute over a bill to exempt yeshiva students from serving in the army.
