Israeli President Reuven Rivlin was in the West Bank settlement of Har Bracha on Thursday in order to visit the Ben-Gal family. 29-year-old Itamar Ben-Gal was murdered earlier this week by an Israeli Arab in Ariel.

Ben-Gal is survived by his wife, Mariam, and their four young children. “I came to be with you not just because of the commandment of comforting mourners but also [because] of a personal degree of friendship,” Rivlin told Mariam. “I’ve read and learned a lot about his [Itamar’s] actions and deeds and I will also host the students of this great teacher at the President’s Residence in order to sit and speak with them about the terrible incidents.”

The terrorist who murdered Ben-Gal remains at large. IDF forces are operating in the West Bank in order to locate him. Shortly after the attack took place, the Israeli authorities announced that the terrorist has been identified as 19-year-old Abed al-Karim Adel Asi.

Personal details about al-Karim began to emerge on Monday evening. “This is a young man who is known to social services, homeless and addicted to drugs,” the Israeli Welfare Ministry said in a statement. “Throughout the years, attempts were made to help the young man who was abandoned by his parents and he received several housing solutions and rehabilitation from the State, but he chose to stop the process each time.”
