Moshe almost drowned while swimming with his friends at the Kiryat Haim beach during the Shavu'ot holiday. He was rescued by a jet ski driver and taken to Rambam Medical Center, where he has been hospitalized since.

His grandmother helped raise him until he was four years old, when he moved to Israel with his parents. His family members said they believe her presence by his bed might speed up his recovery.

"It's so hard hearing his father talk about the grandmother," said Ofra, the school principal. "It's the only thing that makes him smile."

"It's our mission to see him wake up," she added. "It would be a miracle."
