2018 in Israel starts off with rain and snow
Shin Bet, IDF arrest 17 Hamas terror cell members who were planning attackThe members of a West Bank terror cell that was receiving instructions from a Hamas terrorist in Gaza have been arrested by Shin Bet and IDF forces. The terrorist in Gaza who was in contact with the terror cell was none other than Abdullah Arar, who was released from behind bars in Israel as part of the Gilad Shalit prisoner exchange.
It was cleared for publication on Monday that the IDF and Shin Bet have arrested 17 members of a Hamas terror cell in the West Bank. The terror cell members were planning to carry out an attack with the guidance of a Hamas terrorist in Gaza.
The Shin Bet stated that the Hamas terrorist in Gaza who was in charge of the terror cell was none other than Abdullah Arar, who was involved in the kidnapping and murder of Sasson Nuriel. Arar was expelled to Gaza as part of the Gilad Shalit prisoner exchange and has since returned to taking part in terrorist activities.
The Israeli security forces suspect that Arar instructed Ala’a Salim, a Jaba’ resident, to establish a terror cell and purchase an M-16 rifle. Salim then contacted Rian Toam, a fellow Jaba’ resident, and asked him to purchase the weapon. Salim gave Toam thousands of shekels so that he could buy the M-16. Salim also contacted other Palestinians who live in the West Bank and recruited them.
A Shin Bet official said in response to the report that senior Hamas terrorists have recently increased their attempts to convince Palestinians in the West Bank to join the group and carry out attacks on its behalf. “The security forces will continue to act with determination to thwart the group’s efforts to carry out terror attacks in Israel,” he stated. The official added that the security forces will also hold Hamas responsible for every terror attack that is carried out with the terror group’s guidance.
