16-year-old Nada Abdach was killed on Tuesday night in a hit-and-run accident in Haifa. Police began searching for the driver last night and arrested him this afternoon. The suspect will appear in court for a remand hearing on Wednesday evening.

“The Israel Police was able to put its hand on and arrest the suspected driver involved in the deadly hit-and-run accident in Haifa yesterday,” read the police statement. However, the local residents are still very angry. “This isn’t the first time that an accident has happened on this road,” said Abdach’s aunt. “This is a difficult and unfortunate case in which someone decided to take a life and flee. If he had stopped and helped, maybe we would be at a different place.”

The accident occurred when Abdach was on her way home from an Iftar meal with her friends. After the accident, residents took to the streets and protested in front of the city hall building. The residents are claiming that the Haifa Municipality has abandoned them and is not doing enough to make the roads in the area safe.
