Following terror threats: Israel shuts down border crossing into Sinai

Today (Monday), Israeli Minister of Transportation and Intelligence Yisrael Katz decided to close the Taba crossing for Israeli citizens as of immediately and until the end of Passover, in a week. The decision was reached following increasing threats as well as yesterday’s terrorist attacks in Egypt. Egypt was updated regarding the decision.

Katz decided to close the crossing after consulting with Defense Minister Avigdor Lieberman as well as other security officials. However, the crossing will be open for foreign citizens who wish to leave Israel to Egypt’s Sinai.

Israelis returning from Sinai will be able to do so throughout the holiday. Meanwhile, the Israeli Counter-Terrorism Bureau repeated its warning and urged all Israelis in Sinai to leave the area and return to Israel.
