Jewish teen shot dead after attempting to stab soldier at checkpoint

A 19-year-old Jerusalem resident was shot dead after he tried to stab a soldier at the Hizma checkpoint near Jerusalem. No injuries were reported among the Israeli security forces. Police are still investigating the incident.

A stabbing attack was thwarted on Tuesday at the Hizma checkpoint near Jerusalem. The Israel Police stated that a 19-year-old Jerusalem resident attempted to stab a soldier at the checkpoint. A security guard reacted quickly and shot the suspect. He succumbed to his wounds at the scene. No injuries were reported among the Israeli security forces.

According to the initial findings, the suspect was a Jewish resident of the nearby Pisgat Ze’ev neighborhood. The security camera footage of the incident shows that the young man was leaving the neighborhood when he suddenly started to run toward a female IDF soldier with a knife. A security guard at the scene saw the suspect and opened fire immediately.

The Jerusalem District Police stressed that the security guard responded correctly given the circumstances. Police are now looking into the suspect’s past and questioning his family.
