Thousands of people paid their final respects shortly after midnight (between Saturday and Sunday) to Hadas Malka, the Israel Border Police officer who was murdered in the Jerusalem stabbing attack on Friday evening. Among those who attended the funeral were Israeli Public Security Minister Gilad Erdan, Opposition leader Isaac Herzog and Israel Police Commissioner Roni Alsheikh.

“Hadas’ memory will not depart from us,” Erdan said during the ceremony. “We will continue to walk in Hadas’ path. We will continue to build and develop our land. We will not surrender and not bow our heads in front of the damned terrorists. We will pursue our enemies and those who curse us everywhere. Hadas’ memory will be in the heart of the entire nation.”

“Your friends say that you were an entire world: [you were] moral, [you had] love for the land [of Israel] and its people,” Alsheikh said when he eulogized Hadas. “In the Border Police, they are saying that aside from being professional and patriotic, you were the big sister to all of the female officers in mandatory service. You were always caring for others and making sure that there was a good atmosphere. [You were] always smiling, lending a hand to help and your happiness impacted all those around you.”

23-year-old Hadas was initially drafted into the Israeli Navy, where she served for about seven months. She then transferred to be in a combat role, as she requested, in the Israel Border Police and was stationed in Jerusalem. She was even trained as a commander. When she finished her mandatory service about a year ago, she signed on for additional service.
