3 badly injured in Ma'ale Adumim fire
US supertanker to launch first-ever operation along Tel Aviv-Jerusalem highwayThe giant firefighting aircraft, capable of night-time operation, will join 20 other foreign planes that have been assisting Israeli forces in battling the flames across the country.
A day after landing in Israel, the US-based Boeing 747 supertanker will launch its first-ever operation Saturday afternoon, helping to put out fires along Highway 1 which connects between Tel Aviv and Jerusalem.
The giant aircraft from Colorado Springs became the 21st foreign plane to arrive in Israel since the beginning of the fires. Its main advantage over other planes is its ability to operate at night-time, when the winds are exceptionally strong.
The highway will be blocked on both directions from 3 p.m. for 30 minutes.
