Police suspect Jewish hate crime in East Jerusalem
Snow falls in northern Israel as temperatures continue to dropResidents of northern Israel woke up to a white morning as the current winter system intensified. Police have put up roadblocks due to slippery roads and some schools sent students home early.
Snow began to fall on Friday morning on Mount Hermon and other mountain peaks in northern Israel, including the Golan Heights and the Galilee mountains.
In some places, such as Safed, Beit Jann and Kibbutz Sasa, about two centimeters of snow piled up, prompting some schools to send students home in the middle of the day. Police have blocked a number of slippery roads in the area.
The current winter system has also caused streams in the north to flow and has risen the water level in the Sea of Galilee by four centimeters (about 1.5 inches) since Thursday. The Mount Hermon ski resort site remains closed due to the heavy snow.
In central Israel, the rain continued to intensify and is expected to spread toward Tel Aviv and further south. Jerusalem has remained dry for now despite the cold weather.
